1. My name is Karrin Murphy and I'm a Sergeant at the Chicago Police Department, Special Investigations. Yeah, the ones who get all the odd cases. That's all right, guys, when things are inexplicable and scary, we're here to stop them.

2. I used to be Lieutenant and head of SI. I got demoted for missing for about twenty-four hours. Unlike previous former heads of the department, I didn't get kicked out from the police. I wonder why... maybe because I'd stuck for a while. Maybe because, with help, we got a very high percentage of the cases solved and baddies stopped, whether the superiors wanted to hear the truth about who - or what - the baddies were or not. Maybe because I took CPD's 'leper colony', the outcasts that got dumped into SI, and helped turn them into a team that works together and takes down those we stand up against. Or, I don't know. Maybe somebody likes me or something.

3. I *putting it mildly* don't really enjoy spending time in the close proximity of shrinks.

4. My first ex-husband passed away a few years back. My second ex-husband is currently married to my younger sister. I thought better of the minx-- *coughs* Rick, my now-brother-in-law, still hasn't gotten the memo about being a decent person. If he hurts Lisa though, he'll have to deal with me, and I won't go easy on him.

5. I used to be close to my mother while growing up. Taking on my father's work though, and sticking to it, has made us drift apart. I'd still go out of my way to make her glad, but my job is not negotiable.

6. I am not in any way ready or willing to enter into a serious relationship. I know at least two people who are made unhappy by the fact, but I've broken two marriages... I know the symptoms.

7. Working with Dresden has made the world a much more frightening place for me. In the end though, it doesn't change who I am and what I need to do. He's helped me do it better and help more people. Oh, and don't let him water your plants, chances are your house will look almost as bad as his when you're back.

8. Working with Dresden has also allowed unexpected beauty into my life. And fun. Even if he is a chauvinist pig who needs to get through his thick skull that women aren't weaker than men. ... on the other hand, I'm grateful his skull is as thick as it's turned out to be.

9. I don't like it when somebody's purposefully keeping information about a case from me. And I hate it when I have to file reports that are nothing but pure fiction about things where the facts will not be accepted, but as long as it allows us to keep on going and getting things done... I can live with the latter.

10. I like seeing the look of respect on people's faces when they're watching me, sometimes. Pity that I get it more often when I put down to his knees a male trying to attack me who's two feet or more taller and about three times as heavy as me, than when I stop something that's killing innocent people. But as long as I do the one that's important... I can live with the pity. It's still not right that people pay more attention to appearances, to demonstrations, than to the stuff that matters.
