Small Favor ... rantlet

Hmmmm. I've slept for about four hours on the book...

ONE aspect of all that's happened that I disagree with my muse on. ONE. And of course it's expanded on. OF all the places Jim could have taken her... upset that Kincaid is hurt?

On the other hand, I kinda agree with the relationship advice she gives Harry. Just in case someone was wondering.

Ah, and when I was speculating about her getting Shiro's sword, I had good reasons to think it would happen a lot later. She's the right kind of person. But she's far from ready for it yet. That job offer was... untimely.

Oy, and lots of love from my muses to Molly. Michael is going to be all right.

... and oich! Now not only the Fallen but the actual angels have Harry's number. I doubt Jim Butcher will manage to get Harry into as much intensity quite by the next book, it takes a bit of momentum for that, but the stakes went even higher...

and a couple of even more random comments.
- Jared. Anybody else think that is one more of his pop culture references and a nod to Jareth?
- This may only be relevant to me, but I love the even MORE Vorkosigan / Bujold references.

And a question - will the new canon be incorporated in the End of the World storyline, or that will be kept pre-Small Favor break?

Regarding one:

I dislike the Kincaid-Murphy ship almost as much as the Luccio-Dresden ship.

I haven't gotten as far as the point your at, but It would seem to me that Murph is the kind of person who can't just shag a guy and not care about him at all. Again, maybe when I get to that point I'll read and consider the reaction excessive too, but I can't say yet ...

Regarding new canon in EotW SL. Can't really say till I've read the whole book. I will post a state of the muse after being finished that lets everyone know where I stand with it.

So! We'll do denial RP. I mean, if Small Favor had given us good ships to work with, I'd have been fine... kinda. But as is? Denial. Please.

... heh. Harry must keep secrets from Luccio. Start with the biggies, like Lash and Elaine, and get to the (kinda) smaller ones like Bob... sorry, I just don't see that working out. (*giggles* He MUST keep Bob secret from her. Partly because she's kinda thinking that Justin kinda destroyed him... But at least we get more clueage about how Bob came to be...)

I'd kind of like to, if only to work Thomas' scarf in somehow (which can be done without working in everything else if needed).

It seems like everything that happened in Small Favor would completely de-rail what's happening currently in the EotW storyline. Unless we're saying Small Favor just happened recently. Or something. Meh.

I think I'm going to have to agree with Kas. I'm not sure Murphy's the kind of person to just sleep with someone and not end up caring about them, despite her conversation with Harry previously about casual relationships. It could simply be that while she is attracted to Kincaid and she does worry about him there at the end, that isn't the same as wanting a house witha picket fence with him (no matter how adorable he was with Ivy).

And I don't think it was a nod to Jareth. He never struck me as very Jareth-like. I do, though, think it's definitely not his real name.

[identity profile] wild-maggie.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
*wry* No, Justin's the Jareth like one. "Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave"?

I think... I'd have to go back and re-read with special attention to all the parts involving characters we have, but. Maggie can be shuffled out of the way shortly after the first few chapters, with Eb. Elaine doesn't have to enter into it at all. Harry and Thomas survive, albeit worse for the wear. Lara wasn't in it. Mostly it would affect, it seems like, Molly and Murphy, Harry and Thomas. So I'd say you guys need to figure out if you want to integrate it or not.

[identity profile] notevendarkyet.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
... do you think "you have no power over me" will work on Justin?

*nods* Molly Murph Harry and Thomas seem to be the ones who show up. WEll, and Mouse and Mister. Hmph. We'll work something out. Somehow.

Heh, I do find it interesting...
Right. I think that one more of the reasons for Harry/Luccio was the fact that everybody seems to be using Susan to tempt him... and he needed to make a statement - to the bad guys! That he's moved on. With somebody who can more or less take care of herself.
Now that makes a little more sense to me than COMPLETELY random stuff.
And on Luccio's part, possibly going for another way to control him.

[identity profile] notevendarkyet.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Just in case you were wondering, Justine literally beamed at the scarf part ^_^ ahem.

Hmmm. Gotta think this through about integrating overall. We'll work it out, but I thought it would be something to think about.

Buahaha I think if I were there, I'd have been still poking fun at Murph about that comment 'don't you think her looked very paternal with Ivy?' ... Buah. Karrin/Jared iw wrong wrong wrong. He's bad for her. Ugh. lol

Aaah yes. Well, the name nobody will doubt is his is 'Hellhound', everything else is... for the mortals. Probably.

HA HA I guess I'm the only one that likes the two new ships. They won't last long anyway but I do like Murphy/Kincaid and Harry/Luccio. I agree with Murphy's relationship advice though. It can't last because of all the secrets he has to keep but as a bridge to the next relationship after Susan I think it's good.

Of course Lara thinks it's great since it means he's no longer under the True Love protection. MWAHAHAHAHAHA

As for Molly she's all ack ack ack with her dad, but since he seems to be out of the worst part of it she's adjusting much better. She still REALLY HATES that she can't visit him in the hospital.

As for the storyline, Molly really didn't have a heck of a lot in the Small Favors book. Mostly backup help so I can incorporate her new canon in the end of the world sl or not. Whichever would work best. :)

[identity profile] notevendarkyet.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I didn't like Murph/Kincaid* in the first place, let alone now. But eh, I don't think they'll last either.

My new theory for Harry/Luccio is that he does it (partly also) to divert attention from women who are less capable of protecting themselves, who are obviously targets for creatures from Denarians through Mab to who-knows-what... and hell, Harry's a knight, remember?
If Butcher actually ends up playing that way, withholding from a relationship with somebody may be also seen as an act of love. Gah, my head hurts. But yeah, I'd guess that at least for now, the true love protection is off.

Poor Molly. Much much love for her. She did a lot by pointing out that indeed there was something done to Harry's mind.

Throw-away theory. Something's been bugging me about Small Favor, and that's the absence of an actual appearance by Father Foothill. Put together with the suspicion that somebody from the Church may have taken up a coin...

Edit: * see? I can't even spell his name right. Murphy's half-angry, half-amused.

Hee, Freudian slip re: misspell. I think the Kincaid ship is all about the physical and safe from emotions. Because it was safe the emotions slipped in. Are they in love? No, I see it being lovers then going into the friends with benefits (IE lovers/friends) then probable meld into just friends later.

You might be right with Harry. Frankly I think it's someone that understands his world, someone attractive and Lara informs me it's been YEARS since he's been laid and he was going to go insane! *snerk* I wouldn't say rebound relationship cause hello 4 years, but a rebound in that Luccio is just as safe for Harry as Kincaid is for Murphy. Like Kincaid, I think it'll go lovers then morph into friendship later.

Yeah, Molly was good. She knew when her Obi-wan was being all wonky.

And ACK with your theory. I hope you're wrong cause I so love that character and I'd hate to see him taking the coin. But it would be a lovely twist.

I knew Murphy would get the sword (or I should say A sword) since the avenging angel vision Harry had of her. I just didn't know which one she'd end up with. :)

[identity profile] notevendarkyet.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Bah. The fact that Kincaid reacts protectively re Murph when she shows up for the meeting totally annuls the theory that the feelings are only on Murph's part (though probably MOSTLY on her part. And no, love each other... nah. They are too different. For a reasonable partnership, the two parties need to be on the same page. I don't think Kincaid can be on the same page as any human.)

Friends later is hopeful. Really. For both pairings.
Heh. I don't think that just 'attractive' would be enough of a reason for Harry to get involved with his boss. Especially since she obviously went after him first, and he ISN'T as naive as to think it was for his pretty face.

Haha I know, I like Father Foothill too. But the fact that he's mentioned many times but never makes an appearance just has me going o.O huuuh?

Bahaha I think that Murph isn't ready for a sword. (Of course, the sword had an emphatically different opinion, but her answer to the job offer was adamant enough.) I did think she'd get Shiro's sword (Bah, I even wrote a Katana prompt for her...) but not yet. She's far from the inner balance yet. Even Sanya sees the world in black and white, and Murph... can't. Not yet.
